Cardiff & Met
midfielders Jacob Draper and Callum Mackenzie have been selected to represent
Great Britain U21’s at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia.
Draper has become a key figure for Cardiff & Met over
the last two years and will look to draw on his senior international experience
for Wales since debut as an 18-year-old, including selection for the 2018
Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.
Mackenzie has just enrolled at Cardiff Metropolitan
University and will be a very handy addition to both the BUCS & National
League teams, having recently been capped by the Scotland senior team after
some promising performances for both Scotland U21’s and Great Britain U23’s.
Great Britain will kick off the week-long tournament in
Johor Bahru on the 6th October against New Zealand, before taking on
Japan, Australia, Malaysia and India in their remaining pool matches. Their
performances will then determine who they play in a ranking match, and the
squad will once again be competing hard for a medal given their strong history
in the competition.
Great Britain will be hoping to go one better than 2017,
where they claimed the silver medal after being narrowly defeated by Australia
in the final. Draper and Mackenzie were both part of that squad and will be
eager to make amends this year.
Good luck to both Callum and Jacob from all at Cardiff & Met Hc.
